Expedient Acquires phoenixNAP’s U.S. Managed VMware Cloud Business

PITTSBURGH (November 3, 2026) — Expedient, a Cloud Service Provider delivering Intelligent Infrastructure for the AI era, today announced it has acquired the U.S. managed VMware cloud business of phoenixNAP, a Phoenix-based global IT services provider. The transaction covers phoenixNAP’s managed VMware cloud services business and Veeam-based backup and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) business, serving U.S. clients from phoenixNAP facilities in Phoenix, Arizona, and Ashburn, Virginia. Terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands Expedient’s VMware Cloud Foundation business as VMware customers face a series of deadlines. As Broadcom consolidates its VMware Cloud Service Provider, or VCSP, program, contracts for providers that are not renewing, including phoenixNAP, will end in March 2027. Clients of non-renewing providers, including phoenixNAP, need a partner that can keep VMware running without disruption today and to support where they go tomorrow. Expedient gives phoenixNAP clients that path, with licensing, support and engineering continuity, without operational disruption.

“For phoenixNAP clients, nothing about how their business runs has to change on day one,” said Bryan Smith, CEO of Expedient. “They keep their VMware environments and the engineers who know them, now backed by a team that has managed VMware for clients for more than 20 years. From there, we’ll help each client decide what comes next, on VMware, across the cloud and into AI.”

At close, phoenixNAP clients keep their current environments, service levels, consoles and support engineers. Expedient’s Pinnacle tier VCSP status allows clients’ VMware Cloud Foundation environments to remain fully licensed and supported, with no action required on their part. Over the coming months, Expedient will work with each organization on a long-term plan to bring its environment onto the Expedient Cloud platform, running on Expedient infrastructure in Expedient data centers, at a pace the client sets. From there, clients can grow on VMware Cloud Foundation, optimize cost or add new cloud and AI services. No workloads, networks or IP addresses will move without a plan agreed with the client in advance.

“This transaction lets phoenixNAP focus fully on our Bare Metal Cloud platform and global network, while our managed VMware clients gain a long-term home with a partner dedicated to VMware,” said Ian McClarty, President of phoenixNAP. “We chose Expedient because of its track record with VMware clients and its commitment to continuity.”

The transaction is limited to phoenixNAP’s managed VMware cloud business in the United States. phoenixNAP continues to operate its Bare Metal Cloud platform, dedicated servers, global network and infrastructure services.

The deal adds to strong momentum for Expedient, whose sales grew more than 40% over the past 12 months, as demand for private cloud accelerates. Organizations are rethinking public cloud cost, data sovereignty and AI readiness, and many are choosing private infrastructure for the workloads their business depends on. Broadcom’s Private Cloud Outlook 2026 found that 83% of enterprises are now considering moving workloads back to private cloud, up from 69% in 2025. Expedient’s Intelligent Infrastructure is built for that shift, bringing private and multi-cloud, data protection, security and AI together in one managed service on infrastructure Expedient owns and operates in its own U.S. data centers. Organizations can modernize and adopt AI without giving up stability, predictable cost or control of their data.

As a Pinnacle tier VMware Cloud Service Provider in the Broadcom Advantage Partner Program for North America, Expedient is investing in VMware Cloud Foundation for the long term. phoenixNAP clients gain access to Expedient Cloud, which runs on Expedient-owned infrastructure across 14 U.S. data centers, and 24/7/365 U.S.-based engineering support, along with the full Intelligent Infrastructure portfolio, including disaster recovery, managed security and Expedient AI CTRL for governed enterprise AI. Clients can add these services on their own schedule, alongside their VMware environments.

Get Your VMware Environment Ready for What’s Next

Expedient offers two no-cost tools to help organizations understand where their VMware environments stand. With general support for vSphere 8 ending in October 2027, any organization running VMware can use the VMware Health Check at vmware-health-check.expedient.cloud/ to see whether its environment is ready for VMware Cloud Foundation 9. Using an RVTools export, it reports support status, VCF 9 readiness and compliance exposure in about a minute, and the workbook never leaves the user’s machine. Organizations whose VMware provider is not renewing can start a 15-minute Bridge Fit Check, which confirms eligibility, maps the current environment and outlines the path to uninterrupted VMware services, at no cost or obligation at expedient.com/bridge. VMware service providers can explore their options at expedient.com/solutions/challenge/expedient-bridge-program-partners.
